Job Description Summary This position is for a lead engineer within the Integrated Manufacturing Engineering (IME) organization. In this role you will own all engineering functions related to the production of rotating parts and compressor airfoils made by GE shops and external suppliers. In this role, you will be on the front lines of an organization that is dedicated to improving the delivery and producibility, enhancing the Engineering-Supply chain relationship to improve the health of the supply chain and product to enable the business to fulfil our customers' expectations. Examples of specific tasks you will be responsible for are: producibility design changes, on-going manufacturing support, and strategic improvements on production related processes of the assigned hardware. Job Description Essential Responsibilities Coach and mentor others in the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects, using engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. Lead the solution of complex technical problems, monitoring their progress and quality and ensuring schedule requirements are met. Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments. Utilize in-depth knowledge of engineering & manufacturing, analytical thinking, and technical experience to execute on technically complex projects to meet technical requirements and business goals with minimal technical oversight. Use engineering judgement and experience to challenge entrenched processes and methodologies to recommend improvements. Interact with engineers from multiple disciplines, manufacturing & quality, and regularly exposed to commodity and industry experts all while promoting open and honest dialogue. Travel to manufacturing sites to gain practical knowledge of manufacturing, ensure parts are made according to design intent, discuss producibility issues and explore proposals of cost reduction. Provide support to evaluate nonconforming hardware, producibility improvements, hardware delivery and vendor qualifications. Requirements and Qualifications Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a closely related engineering field. Fundamental understanding of turbomachinery system design. Minimum 6+ years of experience in a relevant engineering role. Solid contribution in a similar role or previous position Capable of coaching others to accomplish assignments Ability in managing projects across functions Proficient oral and written communication skills. Proficient interpersonal and leadership skills. Desired Characteristics MRB approver certification for rotating parts and/or airfoils. Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field Previous experience in design of Aviation components. Previous experience in manufacturing, especially of aerospace components. Flexible and friendly approach to work in teams. Experience on life analysis of aerospace components. Proficient experience with Ansys and NX Practical experience with GD&T. Passion for problem solving and driving solutions, while constantly learning and mentoring others. Additional Information The IME design engineer is responsible for the new-make manufacturing of assigned parts. This includes building supplier relationships to improve producibility, reduce losses, and reduce scrap rates and may include on-site support and troubleshooting. This individual will help support investigations (including SPMT), Class II producibility improvements & cost reductions, and quality issues. The IME design engineer will lead PPRs, own SPS/SPR and S-065 MRB dispositions and make recommendations for S-074 dispositions.
