  • Key Responsibilities – Assistant Butcher Cruise Ship Duties & Food Preparation
  • Assist the butchery team in preparing, trimming, and portioning meats, poultry, and seafood under the supervision of senior butchers and galley leadership.
  • Follow established recipes, food portioning, and safety procedures to ensure consistent quality and freshness for all onboard dining venues.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the butcher shop, food storage, and preparation areas in compliance with USPH, HACCP, and company sanitation standards.
  • Support the daily operation of butchery equipment, helping to clean, sanitize, and store knives, machines, and tools after each use.
  • Participate in basic inventory tasks, such as stock rotation and assisting with receiving deliveries to support efficient galley workflow.
  • Work collaboratively with the galley team, adapting to dynamic schedules and supporting special menu requests or dietary needs as required.
  • Demonstrate a positive, safety-focused attitude and contribute to a respectful, inclusive workplace for colleagues of all backgrounds and identities.
  • Requirements – Cruise Ship Assistant Butcher: Culinary Entry Level Skills
  • At least 6 months of experience in a butchery, kitchen, food production, or related culinary environment; high-volume, hotel, or cruise experience is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of meat, poultry, and seafood handling, portioning, and food safety techniques; interest in developing further expertise welcomed.
  • Familiarity with kitchen sanitation protocols and food hygiene compliance, with a willingness to learn and follow detailed procedures.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multicultural galley environment onboard.
  • English communication skills are required for safe and efficient teamwork; additional languages are considered beneficial.

  • Prepare workstations with all necessary tools, protective gear, and ingredients at the start of each shift to ensure smooth production flow.
  • Support in receiving, checking, and organizing meat and seafood deliveries per shipboard quality standards and traceability guidelines.
  • Assist in portioning and prepping ingredients for buffets, restaurants, crew mess, or special events as directed by superiors.
  • Contribute to regular cleaning, sanitizing, and deep-cleaning routines for all butchery areas and equipment, upholding maritime hygiene standards.
  • Participate in inventory checks and basic record-keeping tasks, notifying supervisors of any supply issues or needs.
